The neighborhood
Lincoln Park is one of the best neighborhoods in all of Chicago. The unit is located on Dayton street, which is right in the heart of Lincoln Park.
On Halsted street, north of North Avenue, there is shopping (Barney's Coop, Abercrombie & Fitch, Calvin Tran, Shabby Chic, 9 West, Endo/Exo, Ethan Allen), dining (Nookie's, Minnie's, Cafe Ba Ba Reeba, The Black Duck, Vinci, Landmark Grill), nightlife (Tilli's, Boku) and theater (Steppenwolf).
Armitage street is full of smaller boutiques, spas, and dining. Favorites include Studio 910, 1151 Lill, L'Occitaine, Salon 1800, and Tarantino's. And there are the "landmarks" of Charlie Trotter's restaurant (Mr. Trotter himself lives three houses down from us on Dayton) and Lori's Shoes.
Starbucks is everywhere, including at the corner of Sheffield and Armitage; Webster and Halsted; and North and Sheffield.
The Farmer's Market is held every Saturday morning between May-October at the Lincoln Park high school parking lot, 650-750 W. Armitage. Fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, beef, flowers, herbs and more.
The closest Dominick's is at Division and Clybourn.
Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Best Buy, CVS, Bed Bath & Beyond, Peet's Coffee, Ulta III, Patagonia, Sam's Wines & Spirits, Smith & Hawken, Ann Taylor Loft, Gymboree, J. Alexander's and Goose Island Brewery are all located in the shopping district bounded by Sheffield, Willow, North Avenue, Clybourn.
Along North between Halsted and Sheffield are Crate & Barrel, Z-Gallerie, J. Crew, Gap, Cost Plus World Market, Restoration Hardware, the Land of Nod, Pottery Barn and the Container Store. Uncle Julio's Hacienda for Mexican food.
Further up Clybourn is the Crate & Barrel outlet, Jayson Home and Garden, Kindercare, Walter E. Smith.
At North and Clyborn, there is a Border Bookstore, Sur La Table, Carter's.
All major banks have a branch in the area.
Webster Place is the closest movie theater (validated parking).
Home Depot is just over the river at North Avenue.
The nearest Target is a quick drive away, on Elston south of Wrightwood. In this same shopping area, there is JoAnn fabrics, Wickes and Harlem Furniture, another Home Depot, PetSmart, Mark Shale outlet, and several others.
For people with children:
At the intersection of Dayton and Wisconsin, there is a city park specially designed for newborns and toddlers, with swings, a playhouse, and gentle ramps to learn to walk up.
Oz Park (700 W Webster) is a wonderful shaded park for kids of all ages to play in.
Adams Park (1900 N. Seminary) was completely redone within the past two years; lots of slides, climbing towers, huge sandbox. During the summer, there is a free water park that is full of excited children any day of the week.
St. James' Lutheran School is within walking distance of the unit. Small class sizes (about 15 on average), and the teachers there like to make home visits to really get to know the parents and children. (Tuition, approx. $5,000 per year).
Children in the area also participate in various summer camps, Language Stars, Border Bookstore storytime, Old Town School of Folk Music.
There are so many more great things about this neighborhood; it really is the best of city living. Please email us at timanddeannegrant@hotmail.com with any questions!
